Looking out a window at life itself was how painter Maud Lewis described the opportunity to create.

She said, “The whole of life… already framed. Right there.”

In her middle ’60s, she first won recognition for her Folk Art paintings while living in Nova Scotia.

Most of the photos in this photo blog were taken somewhere near the Maumee River, which runs from the Indiana-Ohio state lines north and east to Toledo and Lake Erie.
